Feedback  This started out in a very promising fashion with a fixed quote from Kandua and a 10% discount for payment upfront. The website and inquiry form are simple and easy to navigate, with the job broken down by tonnes (loads). I was informed of the service provider (Patience) who accepted the job, and put in contact directly to finalise details. I provided all necessary details, save for one misunderstanding regarding an additional charge for a wheelbarrow which is not included in the Kandua quote.. I declined and arranged my own wheelbarrow and informed Patience of the same to allow the job to continue. What followed was a mixed experience to put it mildly. Patience has a team of people who actually perform the work and she coordinates. She is quite responsive on WhatsApp but the punctuality of the team leaves a lot to be desired. They arrived 3 hours often the indicative time. They did however complete the job quite quickly and were helpful in terms of tidying up afterward. They also asked if I was satisfied with the work which was impressive. After they left, Patience enquired as to whether they had completed the work to which I responded positively and thanked her. I was then asked to e-wallet a payment of R350 for the wheelbarrow. I indicated that we had spoken about this in the morning when confirming the job and that I would provide the wheelbarrow. I was then told that it’s not the wheelbarrow but the labour involved in using the wheelbarrow that I needed to pay for. What I find strange is that if Patience was under mistaken impression that I didn’t have a wheelbarrow and that I had indeed agreed to the additional R350 upfront, why would the team arrive with a broken wheelbarrow. Had they not had use of mine, they would be carting material one spade at a time. I indicated my unhappiness with the request as well as the fact that Patience had clearly missed the discussion around the wheelbarrow. When I stood my ground on the matter she said “it’s ok, I will pay from my pocket”. I didn’t take kindly to the emotional response which implied that I was taking advantage of her. As Kandua has a group set up I decided to move the chat there and explain the situation. Kandua then informed me that In the interests of simplicity and standardisation, the quotes are based on the assumption that the rubble is available next to the vehicle to be used. And if access is restricted there would be additional charges. none of this is explained or alluded to in the quotation. Instead the quotation states that loading is included.. Despite my best efforts to get Kandua to intervene in the dispute, the agent left it to me and the service provider to resolve. It was massively disappointing. They offered no meaningful assistance. I eventually, and begrudgingly agreed to pay the additional fee and trampled over my own principles. The kind of thing you do to appease a child throwing a tantrum, just to bring the painful saga to an end. The lesson to take away from this is to be prepared for additional hidden charges, which when you add to the Kandua quote could be very uncompetitive when to compacted to other service providers. Be warned and ensure going into granular detail when discussing the job with your service provider to ensure you don’t get ambushed. I doubt that Kandua will offer any meaningful assistance in cases of these kind things of “honest”misunderstandings..
