He is currently renovating a property for me in the Randburg area. I have absolutely no hesitation in endorsing Obey as a capable builder who is absolutely trustworthy and hardworking. His rates are very fair, and he can either quote per day, or per task. He has done major structural brickwork, including finishing details, brickwork, screeds, removing and replacing windows, doors and french or sliding doors, and doing minor work such as relocating plumbing, and repairing ceilings.

Feedback  I have appreciated the fact that Obey is self managing needing only occasional site management visits.

Description  Built a wooden pergola on patio, put in a step on one side and at back door

Feedback  We are very happy with our new pergola area. Ernest came up with good solutions. The advice we might give is for Ernest to assess more carefully what is required, as the pergola structure turned out to be more complex than he initially realised. More discussion would help. Brickwork and tiling very good, carpentry on pergola was more complex and problematic, though it looks good, all-in-all.

Feedback  I wasn’t at home when the work was done so I appreciate his independence. The work is good, everyone looks great and the tidiness is on point. However, he did promise to come one day and didn’t communicate with me at all that he wasn’t coming.

Description  Ernest managed a team of between 4 and 2 men (depending on the amount of work that day) who did everything from sanding, vanishing, painting, plastering, some brick work, and various other jobs in and around our house.

Feedback  Ernest and his team were great! We were especially pleased with the painting and the plastering. What I also really appreciated is while Ernest wasn't always on site, he always listened to feedback and instructed his team accordingly. If something wasn't done to the correct standard, he would be sure to come back and fix/ change/ manage. You can see he takes a lot of pride in his work and maintaining good relationships with his clients. We already had Ernest do more work while on site. Now that the job is over we can see the next building and maintenance related things that need to be done in the future - Ernest will definitely be the first person we call. I have already referred Ernest on to a friend, who was also very happy with the job he did.

Description  He sorted out some paving work for me, he broke down a red brick wall and removed a pond to create a garden, he also fitted new window openings, new french doors and a new door opening and he removed the rubble as well.

Feedback  He came in on time with his team of three guys and he was professional. He knocked down the wall quite efficiently, cleaned up the rubble and the workmanship was also tidy. I could not be happier than what I was. He was affordable as well which was important

Feedback  Ernest mainly outsourced the work so post the quotation stage only came to site when requested. We had issues with the geyser installation and electrical work. There was intervention required from the IDWork team to resolve these and am quite grateful for them assisting.

Feedback  I really enjoyed having Ernest renovating my studio space. He was always punctual and his team is very friendly. We discussed every step of the way what needed to be done. As with every project once we start going, a new idea would come up and Ernest was always willing to accommodate, he gave me additional job quotes promptly. Every decision we took together and I really felt 'heard'. Ernest went out of his way to save us unnecessary costs and I really appreciated it. At the end of each day, his crew would clean up the building mess.

Feedback  Ernest sanded down all our wood on the exterior and then varnished. At the same time he fixed cracks, did waterproofing and painted our boundary wall. All of this was done in 3 days, he left the house spotless at the end of every day. We have had numerous builders do general work for us but we have never had such a great experience. They're is no doubt that we will always make use of Ernest for any building work or maintenance required at our home.

Feedback  Ernest was excellent. While we got off to a bit of a rocky start due to his unavailability due to a death in the family, when he got started, his work ethic and workmanship was absolutely top notch. He built out my patio and helped to enclose it. He managed all of the work and ensured that there was always an adequate number of contractors available for each phase of the project. I've been bitten before with contractors who prioritise other jobs and leave you hanging, so this was much appreciated. I have not worked with a better contractor before or since, and have now recommended him to friends and family considering building work.

Description  I recently used him for some building at my business. We had openings in a wall, which he broke up and did the plastering afterwards.

Feedback  I found him to be extremely reliable and professional. He did great work and was well priced and I would happily use him again. When he arrived, he didn't waste any time, he immediately got down to business and finished the job in less than two days.

Feedback  It is great that he does small jobs as well as large jobs. We left him and he took the initiative to sort out a few extra things that he felt were unacceptable.

Feedback  My house was left open to him for the bulk of the time, and not even a single piece of paper went missing. I trust Ernest and his team absolutely. Quality wise, I can't fault any of the work. I actually gave Ernest a bonus, because I know the value of the job he did, and I feel like it was worth more than what I was quoted. After this amazing service, I felt compelled to recommend him to my family.

Description  He's worked for me for about 15 years. He's done renovations, painting, and other general handyman odd jobs.

Feedback  For the price that he charges, he's always delivered the goods. I've called him in urgently before, and thankfully he arrived promptly. I do hope he gets more jobs, since he is deserving of them.

Description  I've worked with Ernest, building and restoring a number of houses. His work is to an exceptionally high standard and I thoroughly enjoy having him work on my projects. He has done very large jobs for me and he also is comfortable with small jobs as well. He is extremely trustworthy and I have at times left him with the keys to the house with no issue. I often give him more than he asks for a job because it is such a pleasure to work with him! He is very accommodating and I strongly recommend him.

Feedback  Ernest is an exceptional guy and I strongly recommend him. I really appreciate that he is able to do very large jobs, in one case a job worth more that R600 000, but he also is very happy to do small jobs as well.

Description  Paintering, plastering and damp proofing the entire house - this cost me R28000. Also performed several extensions, including a lappa, kitchen, and bathroom.

Feedback  He is the most quick, reliable, and affordable person I've ever used, and believe me - I've done my research. I've left him alone with my kids, and he's even watched a pot on the stove once when I had to run out. On one occasion, after he completed a tiling job, I broke a tile. He fixed it for free. Now, every time he comes to our home, he asks the kids what their mum broke this time. I've worked with him for 13 years, and I'll never hire anyone else.

Description  He painted two houses entirely, including window sills, walls, ceilings, and everything in between. Getting the new house painted cost me R25000.

Feedback  He has a good team, he himself is a good person. He is honest and reliable.

Description  Earnest has done several jobs for me over the years. He started off by doing painting for us, and over the years we've entrusted him to build a built carport, a stoep, and extend our house to include an entertainment room. He's done Tiling, and flooring.

Feedback  He cleans up completely each day after working, so that the area is in a livable state. He could improve by offering more clear invoices for work.

Description  Added a scullery and built a slabbed roof with a skylight. Also stripped a bathroom and rebuilt it.

Feedback  Needs to be more detailed in quotation and plan supply of materials. Appreciate his willingness to adapt to changes.
