Our flagship product, Kandua.com, is South Africa’s #1 online home services marketplace: A seamlessly designed platform, that connects great home service providers to the people who need them, powered by pioneering technology and a passionate, talented team. Data at Kandua is mission-critical, with unique challenges
Matching supply & demand to optimise for revenue & user experience across 100’s of highly varied services is a difficult problem. And fundamentally – it’s a data problem. Given the features of a job, what is the optimal price to charge? Given previously observed preferences, which of our 35k pros should receive what job opportunity? What is the probability a given user will churn at given point, and how much can we afford to spend, to rescue them?
And, that’s only within our B2C product 👆. Add the newly launched B2B and SaaS products – and you’ve got a lot of surface area. With our data-driven, experiment orientated culture – getting the right answers quickly is everything. That’s why building out our data team, and scaling up our data infrastructure, is of central importance.
What will your responsibility be?
As part of the data team, your collective responsibility is to ensure the business gets high quality, data-driven answers to its questions. You’ll interface intimately with engineering, product and leadership to do so.
This means:
- Engaging with leadership and product teams, to surface and intimately understand the questions
- Synthesising raw data available into well fitting answers, using BI tools, SQL, and the assistance of our data science function if needed
- Ensuring the features launched by our engineering teams generate the data we’ll need
- Communicating these answers to the team in a well designed, easy-to-digest way, often using dashboards
What you need to be good great at
- SQL – you’ll certainly be writing a lot of tricky SQL queries.
- Maths – this role requires excellent mathematical skills to derive and combine insights from multiple complex data sources. You’ll need a basic knowledge of Statistics too.
- Data Visualisation – Designing representations of answers to very nuanced questions is very important – and not easy.
- Team collaboration – you’ll be intimately collaborating with all functions and product teams within the business. And of course, within the data team.
- Problem-solving – sometimes finding an answer is hard. Sometimes – so hard you might have to go back and rearrange the question.
- Communication – verbally, in writing; via slides, graphs, and dashboards. People need to easily understand you, and the answers that you give.
