Nathan removed the old ceiling and installed a new one for me, he did a very good job, was very professional, and came on time for work, I have no complaints. What type of ceiling board should you get?
- The type of space, your design intent and your budget will determine what kind of ceiling boards you should install.
- Plasterboard is the most popular choice of ceiling board. These gypsum boards are the same type of boards that are used in drywalling. Rhino board is a popular brand of plasterboard and some people simply call ceiling boards rhino boards.
- PVC or vinyl ceiling boards offer a wide variety of finishes such as wood grain or patterns, are easy to install, waterproof and virtually maintenance free.
- Fibre cement ceiling boards are a non-asbestos board that contains cement, cellulose and sand. It is stronger and more durable than plasterboard.
- Polystyrene ceiling tiles are often designed to look like antique pressed ceilings which were made out of thin sheets of tin plated steel. (Antique-style pressed tin ceilings are also an option, but may require importing materials).
- Wooden ceilings used to be the most common type of ceiling and can create a luxurious, classic finish, but require maintenance and can be susceptible to damage by pests or warping as a result of moisture.
- Speak to your ceiling specialist about including insulation in your ceiling, to keep your home cool in summer and warm in winter.
