When is a picket fence the right choice?

  • A traditional picket fence is generally short and as a simple, classy fence, more of an aesthetic statement and boundary marker rather than a security feature.
  • It is suitable when there are already other security measures in place, e.g. if you live in a security estate and you just want to keep small pets and children from wandering out of your garden.
  • It gives your home the typical American look and feel.
  • It is a low maintenance solution, though it will need the occasional repainting.

What are the components of a picket fence?

  • The Cap:On a picket fence, the cap rests on top of each post. It offers extra protection to the end grain of the post when there is ever harsh rain or other weather conditions.
  • The Rail: The rail is the horizontal bar between posts that support the pickets further.
  • The Post: The posts support the rails and other components of the fence.
  • The Picket: Pickets are described as vertical slats of poles that are attached to the rail. They often have a tip that is pointed or decoratively shaped, to make it stand out a bit more and to make it a bit more unique.

Please can you provide options for the fencing - I have Avery low budget, about 4000. The fence needs to be 10m across the lawn, and stand 1.5m high, with a gate. Thank you!

I am looking to refence my little garden project in the pictures, the initial fencing was pulled down by goats on my property and I'd like to fence with a taller wire mesh fence with more solid posts. wire mesh has to be bird and rabbit proof (small mesh) and at least 1,8m tall. I would then like the current 1,2m fence re used on a wood fence shown in the other pictures to stop goats from crawling under towards the main house garden area after stretching and straightening it out as best as possilbe. this fence was 50m in length.

Length is approximately 20m and height must be over 2m. I also have around 30m of concrete slat wall that needs the smaller top palisade fixed onto the top (approx. 30-40 cm high?)
