When do you need an electrical certificate of compliance?

All property owners should be in possession of a valid electrical certificate of compliance
It is required that the seller produce the certificate whenever the property changes ownership
It is not permitted to market, let, sell or supply unsafe electrical installations
To issue your certificate of compliance, your electrical will check that all the electrical fittings in the house are compliant, that there are no faults, and that the earth breaker works
It is important to obtain a new certificate of compliance when you have done any electrical alterations in your home, as a non-compliant electrical installation may mean that your insurance will not pay out in case of an electrical fire.
When selling your property, you will also need an electrical certificate of compliance for any electric fences on the property and your electrician can provide this for you as well.

How long is an electrical certificate of compliance valid?

The certificate of compliance is valid for up to two years, provided that no electrical alterations are made in the interim.
The electrical certificate of compliance can only be issued by a registered electrician.
